Do we need a President in India

Today I saw news in various news sites that Maharashtra Government is planning to build a new airport in Amravati so that Madam President of India can fly to her home town easily. Otherwise she has to travel 300 KMs on road from nearest airport. After reading this immediately the thing which came to my mind was that to go to my home town I travel 150 KMs on very bad roads from nearest airport. so to avoid that I should try for presidentship. :)
But in our country what is the role of a president. I really think just cutting ribbons and signing the documents send by cabinet. He/she works on advice of PM and his cabinet colleague (and since congress is in power advice of Sonia ji matters most). So why do we need to maintain a system which is just eating the hard earned tax money of the Indains. In a country where peoples are suiciding because they can not earn enough for their family. and we are spending more than corers of rupees every month in maintaining Raj bhawan. In a country where 30 percent of the people are poor we spend 400 corers of ruppes to build an airport so that so called Head of the country can fly to his home town 5 times in a year. (80 corers for every time she flies to his home town). Its only for the current president. If they start doing for all the future president s I can't imagine what is going to happen.

I think same point applies to governors also. The head of state is chief minister. why do we need governor.

I think we would be a better democracy if we have only one head of country/state. Either call him president or prime minister. And he/she directly elected from people of India. Then make him accountable to the representatives of the peoples which is parliament. So parliament and President both should work together.

I started with a very recent news on president and wants to finish with another recent issue of Nuclear deal with US. If you look at the situation you always wonder what is happening. Mr Prime Minister has signed the deal with US president. and his cabinets also approves that. After that it doesn't matter what is decided in the discussion in parliament deal is should be through. But its not going to happen since one the party (Left parties) who are supporting the government from outside don't like any deeper relations with US. (They want deeper relation with China). Now its very confusing to me what is the drama going on in Delhi related to the Nuclear deal. Every day scene changes.
If we would have an democratic system where president/prime minister should gets an approval of any agreements he/she signs then there was no scope for any chaos or confusion. In in current system small parties like Left and samajwadi party who represents not even 10 percent of total voters are dictating their terms. I don't think this democracy is by people and for people.

We should start thinking about the direction of our democracy, which way its going now. Lets start sharing our views about this topic so that we gets views of others and may try to change this in future.
